Although it has been a challenge to balance work, school and life, I am extremely happy I made the decision to pursue the Part-time MBA program at SFU. Last year when I had my admissions interview, I remember the interviewer telling me that SFU was not only looking for individuals who met the requirements, but also had the right personality and experiences to contribute to the positive learning environment, which SFU wanted to create for this program. Well this emphasis on having the right fit is quite evident. We have a great group of individuals that are bright, have diverse experiences and work well in a team environment. This along with our passionate professors has created a fun environment that makes me look forward to my classes each week. Well I must admit that Starbucks, Tim Hortons and McDonald’s coffee have also contributed to the fun environment.
From confidence intervals to motivating others I have learned a lot, but I have also learned that all work and no play makes the MBA experience less fun. After my first semester where I primarily focussed on my studies, I made some changes recently that has helped me enjoy my MBA experience even more. Here are some of them:
1. Staying active – After the first semester where I completely stopped working out, I forgot how helpful exercise is to unwind and in being more productive.
2. Family and friends – Nothing is better than getting your mind off liquidity and long term solvency ratios than spending some time with the people you love.
3. Indulge once and a while – This can be having a drink, watching a movie or in my case watching sports. Getting frustrated with the referees is a nice break from getting frustrated with elasticity and tax incidence.
Overall the experience has been great and looking forward to whatever comes next.
